I thought I'd only want my husband and our midwife present for our home birth, but my husband suggested we have a doula on call just in case. Looking back, I'm so thankful we did. After a labor that went on much longer than I expected, I was exhausted, overwhelmed, and convinced I needed a hospital transfer. The moment Stef arrived, I felt myself relax. She has the calmest, most grounding presence, and somehow made me feel safe enough to trust my body again and keep going when I wasn't sure I could.
Stef seemed to know exactly what I needed without me ever having to ask. She offered counterpressure and encouragement when I needed it most, but she also knew when to step back and let my husband support me. She handed me water before I even realized I was thirsty, dimmed the lights, lit tea candles, and made our home feel peaceful, cozy, and safe. She has such a quiet confidence that made me feel completely cared for. I honestly don't know what we would have done without her. I truly believe having Stef there made all the difference and allowed me to have the home birth I'd hoped for.
